TOUR BLOG DAY 8: CHICAGO

Hey!

We’re in Chicago today at one of the coolest venues I’ve seen in my life -  The Aragon Theater.  This place is so crazy.  You really have to see it to believe it, but there is basically a fortress built inside the venue.  There are castle towers, swords hanging over the stage, dungeon doors, a giant space mural on the ceiling, and cool renaissance drawings on the walls.
Unbelievable.
There were quite a few people lined up outside the venue today before the show.  Mat’s dressing room overlooked the line and he was yelling things out at the fans, I’m not sure if anyone heard/saw him…
Somebody asked for restaurant recommendations for different cities that we’ve visited.  Unfortunately most of the time we just eat the catering at the venue but here’s a few that we have visited that I know Mat loves.
This one is Mat’s favorite sushi place in L.A., seems like a hole in the wall because its just in a random strip mall.  But so good.

Next time you’re in town Mat, try RA Sushi. It’s located about a block west of the Hancock on Rush. Good good sushi!

When does one begin to appear a bit stalkerish? How many comments would that take? I’m thinking it’s a fine line I’m dancing on…

Hola! Must say… Thoroughly enjoyed the show at the Aragon –it was great to see Mat and crew relish the moment. There was a different vibe… Ironically, it seemed that the music from the ‘Nothing Left to Lose’ tour emoted a more ‘black and white’ depiction of life –not in terms of life itself being black and white, but that through life’s challenges and transitions, we are sometimes left in this monochromatic state of existence. ‘Nothing Left to Lose’ seemed to ring with such rich overtones. In contrast… The tunes from the new record seem to be more celebratory –that the time in the wilderness has now been weathered and somewhat resolved… Yet during that time… New seeds were planted… New fruits have emerged. The sounds from the “City of Black and White” serves a vivid array of new tastes from this fruit. Mat and crew seemed to be savoring the moment and this season.. Which presents itself in their presence and music. Thank you for sharing the harvest!

and OH MY GOSH, KICKBALL?!?! I need to stop reading this blog because it’s making me jealous. I will forever be a mid-western kid, it seems: kickball in the sunshine, mat-ball in the cold. wait… “mat”-ball? lol okay, that was cheesy.

Mat! So it’s 12:30 AM here in California and I just bought your new album on itunes! I am listening to every song and of course it is nothing short of AMAZING! After leaving a few comments on these tour blogs, I’m beginning to wonder if you read all of them. I know you are a busy guy with the tour and all, but hopefully you get a chance to hear what the fans have to say :)

The pictures of you and your friends playing are pretty sweet! If I didn’t know any better I would think you were a professional team…..HAHA!
